Kathryn Piña
Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, Kathryn is a Dallas based soprano. Most recently, Kathryn performed in two sold out concerts as a Studio Artist with OPERA San Antonio in "¡Cantemos Zarzuela! Musical Gems from Spain and the Americas." In a few weeks, Kathryn will perform a guest artist recital featuring a program of all Spanish language works called "Canciones de amor" at Grayson College. This winter, she will perform the role of Pastourelle in L'enfant et les sortilèges with Meadows Lyric Theatre.
Some of Kathryn's most notable operatic roles include Susanna in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro with TCU Summer Opera and Red River Lyric Opera. She has also appeared as Flora in The Turn of the Screw at Trentino Music Festival and Pemphredo in the Eastman School of Music's production of We've Got our Eye on You. This past spring, Kathryn performed as a Spirit in Dido and Aeneas with Eastman Opera Theater as well as Cendrillon from Cendrillon in Eastman Opera Theater's Scenes program, "Magic, Mischief, and Mystery!"
As a concert soloist, Kathryn has performed as a soprano soloist in Brahms’ Ein deutsches requiem, Handel’s Messiah and Purcell’s semi operas, King Arthur and The Fairy Queen. This April, Kathryn sang as a soprano soloist and premiered Lazar Weiner's "Glorified and Sanctified (Mourner's Kaddish)" in "A Yom HaShoah Remembrance Concert" as part of the Eastman School of Music's weekend of celebrating Jewish culture. As a recitalist, she has performed recitals with the Festival of American Song with composers Jake Heggie and Libby Larsen and the George Eastman Museum Performance Plus Series.
Kathryn is a proud alumna of Eastman School of Music, where she earned a master's degree in Vocal Performance and Literature. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and Italian Minor from Texas Christian University, where she was awarded the prestigious Presser Award and graduated summa cum laude. Kathryn is currently pursuing her Performer's Diploma at Southern Methodist University.
